St Eustatius
St Eustatius is also known as the Statia. Statia is a paradise for nature lovers. Wonderful hiking is plentiful. At the North end of the island are a series of hills and mountains, remnants of an old volcano. At the center of the island is a plain where the airport is located and at the south end one will find a much younger, perfectly formed volcano - The Quill. Statia is a true piece of paradise nestled in a tropical garden between a 2000 feet / 600 meters volcano and the ever beckoning Caribbean Sea .
What you will find here are new discoveries every day among these exciting and unspoiled trails. This is exploring at its best. For the adventurous traveler, this is a wonderful island to visit. The locals have a saying for their visitors, “take only pictures, leave only footprints and do have a wonderful time”.
To promote the exploration and dissemination of the unique history and culture of this special island, the St. Eustatius Historical Foundation was founded. The founding members of the Historical Foundation and its subsequent boards have provided a vision that includes the creation of a world class Museum, the impetus for the Historic Core Renovation project and the establishment of the St. Eustatius Center for Archaeological Research (SECAR). New museums are also being planned.
